Day: Thursday
Port: Mykonos Town
Excursion: Visit to Ancient Delos
Duration: 4 hours
On board price: € 47 per person
Delos is virtually at the centre of the Cyclades. Its geographical position made it a very early trading place, which, through the centuries developed into one of the most important in the Mediterranean. The small, uninhabited island of Delos was once the religious center of the entire Aegean area. According to mythology it was the birthplace of Apollo, the god of music, of sun, light, harmony and beauty. Pilgrims from all over Greece and other countries, came to pay their respects to the God, bringing their gifts and offerings, making the island one of the most respected sanctuaries, a position it retained throughout antiquity. In the early 19th century, excavations uncovered the ruins of a whole dead city - one of the most important group of ancient remains are the Naxos marble lions, the three beautiful temples dedicated to Apollo and the various houses with their splendid mosaic floors. Rising above the ruins of this ancient city is Mount Kynthos where the earliest traces of inhabitation were discovered, dating back to the 3rd millennium B.C. We shall board local kaiki from the port of Mykonos to take us to the ancient site of Delos. Our walking tour will enable us to see one of the most respected and revered sanctuaries of antiquity.

Ermoupolis, the capital of Syros, stands on a naturally amphitheatrical site, with neo-classical buildings and old mansions. You will pass the villages of Vari and Chroussa until you reach the Posidonia Village. Here you will see the outside of the Benaki Mansion, a building that used to belong to one of the most renowned families in Greece and now serves as the Town Hall. In the next seaside village, Finikas, you will stop for some refreshments. You will then continue with your scenic drive through the villages of Giallissas and Talanta on your way back to Ermoupolis Town.
